Working with clients

There are a number of ways the Client may consider managing construction projects.

In house project management

Projects are controlled by an in-house engineering department that retains the services of a number of specialist design and project management consultancies.

Work is tendered either as individual projects or batched to a number of specialist contractors.

Large volumes of work can become difficult to manage with larger numbers of contractors and consultants.

Outsourced project management

To reduce costs, one option is to ‘outsource’ engineering to a large Project Management company that takes over the whole of the existing engineering function of an organization. This only adds to costs by inserting an extra layer of management replace the engineering function as the design and cost control functions are usually ‘out-sourced’ again to external specialists.

The future — one alternative

A more cost effective route is where the existing engineering role is retained with all the design and project management functions outsourced to a single specialist consultancy — Alphega — alongside a single, partnered, consultancy and a single, partnered contractor.

The future — a more radical approach

The existing engineering role is absorbed into the new management organisation, working with a partnered contractor. Here Alphega differs from all other Industry-related project management companies by reducing, rather than adding to, the number of management layers.

The principals of each of the Alphega businesses are directly involved with the running of each contract, therefore will giving the Client a single point of contact to act as their liaison.

We believe this puts Alphega in a unique position as a single engineering, design, project management and cost control centre
