Partnering with clients

The members of Alphega have considerable experience in the completion and management and completion of projects complying with the Governments commitment to ‘rethinking construction’.

In the past three years, numerous private clients have instructed compliance with the report made by Sir John Egan. Alphega has completed some 75 projects totalling a value of £50m for blue chip clients following and implementing his recommendations.

The commissions in these projects included targets to be achieved, the targets were:

To achieve this, goals have been set for management and staff to increase the commitment to each project and the client. The production of these policies was reviewed to ensure awareness of the value they can add to each project. Clients were more closely scrutinised to see how they would prefer to operate in the designed environment. Co-ordination with the client achieved feedback from operators and end users of the built environment to further improve the product.

A supply chain and implementation of partnering and partnering attitudes has been developed, giving trusted long term relationships to the on-going roll out programme of construction. The partnering produced further integrated design benefits with improvement in off-site pre-construction works enabling standardisation and construction by component form. Off site pre-construction increased quality and reduced on site construction time.

Improvements in quality of the total construction process were achieved by implementation of a strict quality checking regime and a zero defects target. Additional gains in time and cost through the reduction of poor quality items and defect rectification were made.

The implementation of minimum qualification and training standards for each party to construction was put in place. Initially created by production of a person to job specification covering aspects of safety, health, welfare, development training and community awareness.
